The STUFF of my 31 Days

I just looked back through my archives of the past 31 days,

looking for an overall theme,

a pattern of some sort.

Nope.

Nothing.

I’m just as random blogging every day as I am blogging 2 or 3 times a week.

So there’s that.

I will say that even though this was my third year of participating in the 31 Days of writing challenge,

this was by far the hardest year to complete.

There were many days that I HAD NO IDEA how I was going to handle

house construction STUFF,
event planning STUFF,
Little Mermaid STUFF,
Halloween costume STUFF,
laundry and grocery and cleaning STUFF,

in addition to blogging everyday.

But, as it has ALWAYS been for me,

the STUFF of my life

is the STUFF of my writing.

Take anything away and the other would suffer.

I talked with the other Karmen about this because we are alike:

chaos fuels us.

It will always be frustrating and harried,

but there is something exhilarating and inspiring at chaos' core.

So maybe that is why I’ve never been able to quit a 31 Days of writing challenge.

The chaos kept me going.

The crazy actually became a habit.

That probably should’ve been
more obvious to me.

I found myself writing all the time,

even past 3:00 in the afternoon when I am worth precious little.

I learned all over again what I learned in college:

writing is a muscle that needs consistent lifting.

And October was a month with heavy weights.

So like anyone fresh off a good workout,

I vow to keep flexing,

but maybe not with the same
number on the dumbbells.

Having said all that,

I will have loads to talk about next week.

The builders are busting through the wall INTO our kitchen on Monday,

thus leaving us to live without actual plates, drinking glasses, silverware,
a sink and possibly filtered water in the refrigerator.

I know, I’m a diva.
That no filtered water possibility
is throwing me.

We’re getting windows and doors too so our addition will look more like a house and less like a barn.

We were thinking of hosting a square dance.
Except there was no electricity,
heat or completed floor.

We have a shingled roof now.

Ellie is having her tongue tumor removed on Thursday and it was decided that laughing gas would be the preferred form of anesthesia for her.

I am a bit worried about me handling that well.

So there’s that.

The STUFF continues…

Thanks for reading!

  1. I have so loved your blog this month. You've made me laugh out loud and also had me nodding my head in agreement. I shared your page today as one of my "what I learned in October" posts... that you can learn from others even if you've never met them in real life. Thank you!!!

  2. Congratulations on making it for 31 days straight! I've never attempted it. It's not the ideas that scare me, it's actually sitting down to type. I procrastinate so much, I usually end up typing everything at the last minute.

  3. I LOVE your STUFF!!! Always always always.... I know I say this a lot- but you are a TRUE GEM of a writer... I have yet to come across anyone who presents words and thoughts so brilliantly and hilariously like you...

I could read you all day... but, life- the STUFF keeps me from it. Pff.

I am SO impressed that you did this octopanera - octobana- octomania- (lol) every day-

I hope that sweet Ellie is doing okay!! And you didn't pass out!! ;)

When is this darn construction gonna be done? I WANNA COME OVER!!! Sigh... shame on us for not seeing each other yet. What on EARTH? Oh yeah- life. STUFF.
